Community outreach in Bonteheuwel, South Africa

Nearly 30 women and 20 children were supported during our community outreach visit in Cape Town.

As part of its commitment to supporting vulnerable women and children, the GRAOBÉ Foundation conducted a community outreach visit to Bonteheuwel, South Africa. Preparations were made possible thanks to the generous support of donors who contributed financially and through donations of clothing, food supplies and other essential items. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to each and every one of them.

A community facing many challenges

Bonteheuwel is a community facing significant social challenges, including drug trafficking, gang violence and frequent shootings. Despite these realities, the visit allowed deep human encounters and sincere exchanges with families. The women present shared their journeys, their hardships and their hopes for the future.

Memorable moments

One particularly memorable encounter was with a mother and her young son, who has a passion for singing. As a gesture of gratitude, both expressed their appreciation through music — a deeply moving moment.

During the visit, teenage girls shared their dreams of becoming impactful figures — models, motivational speakers — alongside young mothers fighting every day to support their families, and women who have courageously chosen to rebuild their lives.

One of the most touching moments involved a seven-year-old boy who, despite having very little, chose to share what he had received with another child who had arrived later.

“Auntie, thank you for coming today. May God bless you and bless everything you do.”

Distribution of donations

Nearly 30 women took part in the activity. Thanks to our donors, beneficiaries received food parcels, hygiene products and children's items:

  • 32 packs of sanitary pads, 30 bars of soap, 40 packets of salt, 35 packets of sugar, 12 packets of tea
  • 40 packets of rice, 80 packets of noodles, 30 packets of beans, 30 packets of porridge, 20 packets of soy mince
  • 48 bottles of cooking oil, 110 packets of chips, 32 distribution bags
  • Children's clothing and shoes, 7 adult sweaters, baby clothing
  • 2 baby car seats and 1 baby stroller

Each beneficiary received support according to their specific needs. Beyond meeting immediate needs, the distribution delivered a message of encouragement, dignity and hope.

Impact

The initiative directly benefited around 50 people — 30 women and 20 children. It strengthened the GRAOBÉ Foundation's commitment to serving vulnerable communities and developing lasting initiatives for women's empowerment and child protection.

Closing words

This mission reminded me that hope exists everywhere, even in places that may seem forgotten. Today, I carry with me the dreams of these children, the prayers of these mothers, and their daily courage.
